Search Engines 101: How to Come up in a Google Search

30Jan 2012

It's become very clear over the past few years that although there are a handful of highly-profitable and reliable search engines, the clear frontrunner is Google. This is just like the social networking sites. We all know that Google+, LinkedIn, etc. will be useful, but we also know that anything we post on Twitter or Facebook will be more widely noticed.

So when it comes to Google, many of the exact same sites within your industry will continue to remain at the top of any search you try within Google for keywords pertaining to that industry. How do they get there? And more importantly, how do they stay there?

This is hardly an exact science, but there are very clear avenues that any business can take to increase their ranking on a Google Search. Let's all face it, coming up on page 11 of a Google search is not a victory. Very few people ever make it to page 11. So here are three quick little tips that can help you organically rise higher and higher on Google.

1.       Post Original, SEO-optimized Content Regularly: Whether this comes in the form of blogs, website content or other, this is key to coming up in a Google search. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization can most easily be described as incorporating low-competition, high search keywords into your website's content.

2.       Utilize Metatags - Metatags are an integral part of any Content Management System (this is basically where you input your content for your website.) They are simple to input and basically place your postings into categories so Google can better place you within their searches.

3.       Backlinks are KEY - Backlinks, which will basically send the reader back to your website are a very underused and misunderstood category. Make sure that any press releases or other content that submit out into the World Wide Web contains backlinks that will send the reader back to your website.
